Over the past year, the studio has released a series of videos of YouTube spotlighting the people behind its animated films–from marketing and production managers to visual development artists and directors. The newest one released today highlight Sony’s Lauren Faust, who is currently directing Medusa.
Faust shares her parts of her story about how she was drawn to animation–from her first job in animation to becoming a feature length director. I personally really resonated with the part where she talked about how in high school she was the “weird kid” who was still into animation, which was “supposed to be for kids.”
Faust is most famously known for revamping Hasbro’s My Little Pony brand by creating the hit show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Her journey in animation is fascinating and definitely worth checking out.
Sony Pictures Animation is really stepping up its game, letting the world know that it wants to be a big player in the feature animation world. Videos like these are such a treat for animation fans and do a great job of endearing you to the studio, especially since Sony is somewhat newer in the industry (it’s been just over ten years since it released its first film, Open Season).
