In the past few years, GKIDS has become a widely renowned name in distributing and showcasing overseas animation, with films such as The Secret Of Kells, Earnest & Celestine, From Up On Poppy Hill, A Letter To Momo, and The Tale Of Princess Kaguya. Now they bring to us a new addition to their impressive library, from the same director that brought us The Secret Of Kells.

Cartoon Brew has reported that GKIDS has set a December 19 release date for the hand-drawn Irish film Song Of The Sea. The film will release in the IFC Theater in New York and the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theater in Toronto, before showing in other markets throughout the holidays.

Like Kells, it too is inspired by Irish folklore and mythology, and even began production soon after the release of Kells.

Check out the trailer below. The film is set to have it’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6.

Are you looking forward to Song of the Sea?
