tales_from_year_zero_comic_pageFans of Pacific Rim are screaming at the top of their lungs right now! As Guillermo del Toro is wrapping up on his latest live action feature Crimson Peak, he couldn’t help but take some time out to tell Pacific Rim fans that the news they’ve been dying for has finally arrived: Pacific Rim 2 is happening.

BUT WAIT! That’s not all, before the film is released there will also be a Pacific Rim animated series to accompany the Tales From Year Zero comic books, which fill in the story from the moment Kaiju’s first come to Earth through when we pick up with Gypsy Danger in the first film.

In true del Toro fashion, he made the following short video to make the announcement, as officially as it can get, straight from the horse’s mouth.

While many Guillermo del Toro fans have supported the film without question and have begged for a franchise since the film was released, many casual GDT viewers have resisted even viewing this film for various reasons. Many critics were tough on the film because of its lackluster box office numbers, or supposed un-feminist point of view (which is ludicrous in my opinion), but the core fandom has been strong.

Between these new projects, producing The Book of Life, directing Crimson Peak, it’s a wonder how this man gets any sleep.

How do you think the animated series will fare with audiences? Will you be anticipating the sequel or the animated series? Will there be a Godzilla special guest star?? Sound off below!
