During the Cannes Film Festival, all the spotlights were on DreamWorks’ upcoming animated feature How to Train Your Dragon 2, which will release later this Summer and had its premiere in Cannes. DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg was kind enough to not only focus on How to Train Your Dragon 2, but also share some details on upcoming DreamWorks projects including Home.
Lately we’ve been hearing a lot about DreamWorks’ Home, an upcoming animated feature based off the popular The True Meaning of Smekday novels by Adam Rex. A little while ago DreamWorks announced that Rihanna, who will also voice the little girl Tip in the movie, will release a concept album featuring original songs from the film. Last week DreamWorks also announced that Home will no longer release in November of this year, but instead in March of 2015 due to the studio swapping the release dates of Home and The Penguins of Madagascar.

In an interview DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that Rihanna has recorded 12 songs for the soundtrack. Although, the movie won’t be a musical like for example Frozen; the main characters don’t actually sing and dance, but it’s more going to be like DreamWorks’ Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron where the songs are just there in the background like a score. We don’t know if all these 12 songs are going to be in the movie or just a selection of these songs and if Rihanna is going to sing them all (Bryan Adams style) or if the entire cast will sing. More about Home or this soundtrack hasn’t been announced yet but since the movie won’t come out until 2015, I don’t expect to hear more about this movie or the soundtrack anytime soon.
Read the synopsis of Home below:
‘An overly optimistic, yet inept, alien race named Boov, led by Captain Smek, invades Earth to hide from their mortal enemy and make it a new home. Convinced they are doing a favour, they begin to relocate the human race, but one resourceful girl, Tip, manages to avoid capture. When on the run, she is accompanied by a banished Boov, named Oh, who has accidentally notified the enemies of his whereabouts.‘
DreamWorks’ Home is set to release March 27, 2015.
