
We are finally learning more about the actors who will portray different characters in Disney Channel’s newest original movie, Descendants. Today, we learned of who will be playing the villains, namely Jafar, the Evil Queen and Cruella de Vil.
Jafar
Maz Jobrani (above left) will play Jafar. Jafar’s son, Jay, will be played by Booboo Stewart. Maz has been in 13 Going on 30 and Stewart is best known for his work in the Twilight Saga.
Evil Queen
Kathy Najimy (above center) will portray the Evil Queen from Snow White. Her daughter, Evie, will be played by Sofia Carson. Both have worked with Disney before. Najimy is best known for her work as Mary Sanderson in Hocus Pocus, although she has appeared in a variety of other Disney works, including most recently, as Mary in Wall-E. Carson has appeared on Austin and Aly.
Cruella de Vil
Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations will be played by Wendy Raquel Robinson, with her son, Carlos, being portrayed by Cameron Boyce. Robinson is best known for her work in The Steve Hardy Show, and Boyce is a main character on the Disney show, Jessie.
Other Villains
Currently, the biggest name associated with the film is Kristen Chenoweth, who will be playing the mistress of evil herself, Maleficent. We recently learned that her daughter, Mal, will be portrayed by Dove Cameron, who has recently appeared in another Disney Channel Movie, Cloud 9.
Heroes
We currently don’t know as much about the actors who will portray the heroes in this movie, although news has started to trickle out. Most of the other actors who aren’t as well known as Chenoweth, but some have been associated with previous Disney Channel works. Melanie Paxson will portray the Fairy Godmother. You have recently seen her as Walt Disney’s secretary, Dolly, in Saving Mr. Banks. Her daughter, Jane, will be played by Brenna D’Amico. Amara, the daughter of Aurora and Philip, will be played by Sarah Jeffery. Lonnie, the daughter of Mulan and Li Shang, will be played by Dianne Doan, who has been in an episode of Once Upon a Time and in Big Time Rush: Music Sounds Better with U. Belle and Beast’s son, Ben, will be portrayed by Mitchell Hope. We still have to find out who will play the hero parents listed above, along with Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and their daughter, Anxelin. The synopsis reads:
In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast) is poised to take the throne,” Disney writes. “His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?
