If you are as big a Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth) fan as I am, then you have not only been anticipating the release of his new TV series on FX called The Strain, but as an animation fan, you’ve been waiting on the edge of your seat for any news about The Book Of Life, which is directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, produced by del Toro and due in theaters October 17th, 2014.

We have yet to see more concept art or much of anything really, but thanks to Dark Horse Comics we just got word that the “Art of” book will be released September 3rd, just one month before the film. Hopefully we’ll start hearing more about the production as a whole as we get nearer to the release dates for both the book and the film, in the meantime we can gawk at the cover of Art of The Book of Life and continue to speculate about the story.

The Book of Life is the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart.  Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favorites, The Book of Life encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.

Art of The Book of Life hits store shelves September 3, 2014.

Are you excited to read the ‘Art of The Book of Life’? Will you buy it?
