Since last fall, Disney Interactive has been performing a lot of infrastructure work, and has been having to make some tough choices. Now, the company will be laying off 200 employees.
In September 2012, Disney Interactive had to cut 50 employees. This was when they were staffing about 2,000 people.
Now, over the next two to three weeks, 200 more people will be out of jobs. This was reportedly unsurprising news, since this division had shifted it’s control to Jimmy Pitaro, who was tapped to run the department in November.
”This is part of Jimmy’s long-term plan to move the division into the black,” an insider told Deadline.
Pitaro and John Pleasants were co-presidents of Disney Interactive until the Game and Media divisions were merged and Pleasants exited. They had been working together since 2010 after Bob Iger brought them together. Pleasants was to run the games business while Pitaro was to head digital media at Disney Online after coming from a job at Yahoo.
Walt Disney Studios also laid off over 150 people in April.
