The 2007 Argentine animated film Noah’s Ark is coming to DVD this March.
The film, directed by Juan Pablo Buscarini, tells the classic bible story with a new twist. The film is told mostly from the animals’ perspective in a world where both animals and humans can speak.
It’s nice to see this film (known as “El Arca” in Spanish) get a US/Canadian DVD release especially since it’s been a few years since the film was originally released. Shout! Factory!, the company releasing the film on DVD, has done a great job bringing some lesser known foreign animated films to the US, such as A Monster in Paris, which was released on Blu-ray last year.
I haven’t seen Noah’s Ark, but the 2D animation looks pretty nice and fun. Also that orangutan looks suspiciously like King Louie from Disney’s The Jungle Book and was that pig in Home on the Range?
Noah is building a whale of a boat in order to save two of every species from a flood that will cover the entire world. Pretty soon, animals are lining up to board the Ark two by two. But as the rain begins to fall outside, it soon becomes clear that living together on a very cramped ship isn’t going to be easy!
Trouble begins to brew when the animals begin to get hungry, a pair of stowaways plot to take over the ship, Dagnino the Tiger wants to replace the irresponsible Lion, Xiro, as king of the beasts and Noah’s own family begins to squabble! One thing’s for sure – it won’t be smooth sailing on this trip. But with a little luck and a little faith, Noah will be able to deliver his floating zoo to safety.
Noah’s Ark will be available on DVD March 11, 2014. Pre-order on Amazon.
