Illumination Entertainment Sets Release Dates for 3 Upcoming Films including ‘Despicable Me 3’ & New ‘Grinch’ Film

“Minions” Move To 2015

Universal-Illumination-Entertainment-The-Minions-FilmIllumination Entertainment has certainly been making some splashes in the animation world. (its most recent film, Despicable Me 2 was nominated for two Oscars for crying out loud!) So for anyone who is following this company, Universal has now set release dates for three more movies from animation powerhouse.

Untitled Original Film

Get excited about this original film from Illumination because it will be the last original film in a long time. The film currently doesn’t have a title and is described as an “original animated comedy event about courage, competition and carrying a tune.” Hmm…that really could be anything, but perhaps this could be an animated musical.

It will be written and directed by Garth Jennings and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. The film will be released in just two short years on December 21, 2016.

Despicable Me 3

If you still haven’t had enough of Despicable Me, the third installment in the movie franchise will be released on June 30th, 2017. Considering the franchises’ recent success (the second installment made almost a billion dollars at box office!), it comes to no surprise that the company is milking these movies for all they’re worth.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

At this point, if you are pining away for even more Illumination Entertainment, you will be getting another film just five months after Despicable Me 3. But to change things up, this film will be a remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This movie, to be released on November 17th, 2017, is not that different for Illumination. The studio previously created The Lorax, which is based on another Dr. Seuss story.

Minions

This film and its release date have been announce for a while, but the company’s next film is Minions, which will exclusively follow everyone’s favorite little yellow squishy people. This spin off from the Despicable Me world will be coming out July 3rd, 2015.

Are you excited for all of the upcoming Illumination Entertainment films?
