5 Things to Love in the Final ‘Legend of Korra’ Trailer

The first episode of the new season of Legend of Korra airs this week! As if you didn’t know. And here we have the final trailer before the Friday September 13th 1 hour premiere of Book 2 Spirits. If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you know I’ve been all over this like Pabu on dumplings, but in case you’ve missed it here is the last trailer and some thoughts!

It is so difficult not to onomatopoeia all over this with a lot of “AAAHhhhh”, “AAaaoooo”, or “OMGUR”, but that’s exactly what happens every time I watch the trailer. Though my favorite trailer is still the one that aired at Comic-Con, this one is a close second. Unlike Trailer 2, which just gave snippets of Korra’s relationships with other characters and some funny moments, this trailer shares a lot more about the journey Korra is going to have to make this season. And that I love.

1.) The first thing I noticed is how much Korra has changed. She is still strong, and a force to be reckoned with, but she is also a lot more vulnerable. The light in her eyes catches in a way that makes her look softer, and more pensive, almost as if she’s struggling to hold back emotions. I love this because even though we can still expect the same fierce Korra from before, we are also going to get an added layer. She’s going through some things and it shows.

2.) The struggle this season is so much bigger than last season…well at least a lot more personal. The spirits are threatening her village, her family, which means it’s that much more pressure on Korra to figure out her connection with the spirit world. Korra only got a taste of the spirit world at the end of the first season, and though that connection has started, she still seems to be struggling with it.

3.) From the get go Korra has been The Avatar to everyone, and though she might have proclaimed it from the beginning, it seems that she has found it difficult to adapt as such, and may be struggling with some identity issues.

We should consider what Korra is going through on the basic level. She is a spirit reincarnate, yet she is her own person, with her own thoughts, her own ways, her own morals. And yet she shares a connection with hundreds if not thousands of people that came before her, all of whom she represents. Not to mention, she may be suffering from comparative anxiety. Aang was 12 years old when he fought King Ozai and won the 100 year war. And here she is in her mid teens with barely a grasp on air-bending. Talk about a mind-bender.

4.) We can not go through an entire post without mentioning her fellow benders Mako and Bolin. Though we only see them in a small snippet of this trailer, it is evident that their bending is going to the next level.

5.) Finally, the one thing that makes me supremely happy about the return of Korra is the amazing animation! Never has animation this good been on regularly scheduled TV. I am supremely excited for the juxtaposition of the two animation styles that will more than likely dominate this season. We will have the original style of animation, and as an added awesome layer, when we go into the history of the very first Avatar, we will have a completely new style to watch. And it looks amazing.
