DreamWorks has been rather hush-hush about Mr. Peabody & Sherman (which opens March 7th of next year), an adaptation of the segments from Rocky & Bullwinkle. It’s been moved forwards and backwards a couple of times and we’ve heard some tidbits on the cast and crew (The Lion King director Rob Minkoff is at the helm of this project), but other than that? Not much else, really.
In fact, the studio got the promotion ball rolling for How To Train Your Dragon 2 first, which opens three months after this film. It seemed like a smart move anyway, since that was a sequel to a beloved film whereas this one won’t have much hype and anticipation behind it. That being said, we finally got a poster for this film which may mean that a teaser is right around the corner.
With the various descriptions of the footage shown at Comic-Con (Sherman escapes from getting executed by Maximilien Robespierre during the French Revolution, and then to proceeds to “Shawshank Redemption his way to freedom.”) and DreamWorks’ current direction, this project sounds like it’s something to look forward to. At first glance, it might’ve seemed safer unlike the more ambitious How To Train Your Dragon 2 and Home (formerly Happy Smekday!), but it may be just as exciting as those two. DreamWorks may just surprise us with this one.
What do you think? Do you think this will be good? An unexpectedly fine film from DreamWorks, perhaps? Or do you have little interest in it? Sound off!
