Disney has officially announced that A-list Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra will be starring alongside Priyanka-Chopra-disney-planesDane Cook in the upcoming animated film Planes.

Priyanka will voice a plane named Ishani, who is an Asian character. This is significant for being the first time a Bollywood star has voiced a character in an American animated film. No word yet on whether Chopra will also voice the character in the Hindi dub.

For those of you who don’t know, Priyanka Chopra is one of today’s biggest Bollywood stars. She won the Miss India pageant in 2000. Her movie career gained her a National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Fashion (2008), among others. Most recently, she’s branched off into music, collaborating with Will.i.am on her hit single In My City.

Personally I’m happy with this news! Priyanka Chopra is multi-talented (she can model, act, dance and sing) and has a great voice. It’s also great that Disney is making a movie that’s international in spirit.

From DisneyToon Studios, Planes flies into India July 26, and in the US on August 9.
