Blue Sky Studios has officially announced the sequel to their 2011 hit Rio. The sequel, currently Rio_2_teaser_poster-1-titled Rio 2, is set for a Spring 2014 release. That’s not all, it looks like some big stars are set to lend their voices to it!

On Twitter, @RioMovie tweeted:

Blu is back! Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and the entire Rio cast return for an all-new animated adventure: Rio 2. In theaters spring 2014

It followed that up with:

Joining the team are Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth and more! #Rio2

From the sound of it, looks like this will be another success for Blue Sky, who won hearts with the original Rio. Note the release date as well: Rio 2 will release just in time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in…you guessed it! Brazil!

Personally, I loved Rio. It was fun, colorful and celebrated the spirit of Brazil perfectly.

If Rio 2 is as successful as the first, I think we can expect a third one to be released in 2016, to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics, which will be held in…you guessed it again! BRAZIL!
