You read that right! Apparently two iconic cartoon characters, Mickey Mouse AND Roger Rabbit could be seen reuniting in a new movie, if a new proposal goes through.
On Sunday, the author of Who Censored Roger Rabbit? Gary K. Wolf, under his pen-name “Walter Windchill” reported on his blog that the two characters could team up for a remake of the 1952 Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis movie The Stooge.
Wolf gave details about the film, saying that a “Toon Town” train will be introduced as a means of getting around five specific locations in Disneyland. He goes on to say that Walt Disney AND Orson Welles will be characters in the film as well. The film will be released in 3D and “new” virtual reality.
Don’t hold your breath- the “news” is probably fake and just Wolf’s idea of a joke. He is known for his satirical posts and this could be another one of them. However, he does also say that the “development proposal” is “currently being evaluated by Disney and Pixar”.
Here’s what Gary K. Wolf says:
The movie is called The Stooge. It will be based on the classic Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movie of the same name. The story has the emotional empathy and sensibilities of Wall-E and Toy Story. It will be a (G) Rated Pixar type animated musical buddy comedy. Mickey takes on the Dean Martin role, Roger, who is already regarded as a comic genius in France, takes the Jerry Lewis part.
He goes on to say:
Meetings are happening! Directors and writers are being evaluated. Hold your breath! For now, that’s all I can tell you! Believe me, there’s lots more to come.
So what are your thoughts? Is an animated version of The Stooge actually happening? Blatant 25th Anniversary Blu-ray promotion or fact? Either way, this “news” has set the Disney fandom buzzing!
