Select Disney Classics Return to Theaters This Weekend

Cinemark-disney-movies-weekendAccording to a report on the entertainment website Deadline, the popular movie theater chain Cinemark will be showing classic Disney entertainment features this weekend only.  Only 24 theaters across the country will be offering this, in the San Francisco, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Cleveland and Chicago markets.  The movies being shown are all Disney classics from the 1950s:  Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, and Peter Pan.

Disney is no stranger to rereleasing its movies in theaters (Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc. in 3D just last year.)  But it should be noted that these are not 3D showings of the films.  The showings will be presented in the magical 2D format that made audiences fall in love with these characters 60 years ago.

The selection of the movies by Disney seems to follow a pattern, as all three of the movies that will be shown have recently been released on Blu-ray (Yes, Cinemark will have these available for purchase in the lobby.) However, this by no means seems like a bad idea, or a desperate grab at quick cash by Disney.  All three movies seem relatively appropriate Valentine’s Day Weekend movies (especially Lady and the Tramp.)

Better hurry, after this weekend these movies will be headed back to the inescapable Disney Vault!
