Universal Pictures has announced that Academy Award Winner Sandra Bullock has been cast in the Sandra-Bullock-Minionsupcoming Despicable Me spin-off film, tentatively titled Minions. In the movie, set to be released in 2014, Bullock will play a “supervillain” who is described as “Audrey Hepburn-like and driven by world domination.”

The Minions film will center around the history of the yellow sidekicks, who have existed since the beginning of time, and will follow their journey in the 1960s to find a new evil master after they have destroyed all of the “bad guys” who were previously a threat.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film from Deadline:

“This story picks up in the 1960s, before they hench-ed for Gru. With no more super-villains  to serve, the Minions fall into a collective depression and three of them set out to seek a new evil master. They wind up at a villain convention, where they compete for the right to be henchmen for Scarlet Overkill, whose Audrey Hepburn-like high style appearance belies her world domination ambition and her aspirations to become the world’s first female super-villain.”

Personally, I think this is yet another case of signing a big star for the sake of mentioning her name on the poster. Although Sandra Bullock is a fantastic actress and does have a great voice, I doubt that she’ll lend anything special to the character. OR I may be wrong, who knows? We’ll find out when Minions opens December 2014, but before that, we have the sequel, Despicable Me 2 which releases July 3, 2013.Despicable-me-minions
