Kellen Lutz and Spencer Locke have been announced to play the title characters of Tarzan and Jane in an upcoming motion-capture film by Constantin Film. The movie is speedily entering pre-production with Reinhard Klooss directing and Robert Kulzer producing.
Lutz is best known for playing the vampire Emmett in the hugely successful Twilight films, but now he is transitioning to even more iconic roles: the vine-swinging Tarzan himself. Locke is known for her role as K-Mart in Constintin’s Resident Evil series.
The script provides an updated twist on Edgar Rice Burroughs famous novel. THR reports:
Tarzan’s parents, billionaire adventurers, are now killed in airplane crash rather than being marooned with their child. And the movie’s villain is the CEO of Greystoke Energies, a man who took over the company from Tarzan’s deceased parents.
In the script, Jane is the daughter of an African guide and is committed to the conservation and preservation of the African jungle. She eventually works with Tarzan to defeat the mercenary army of Greystoke Energies.
The film will motion-capture 3D computer generated animation, much like Avatar and Beowulf.
