In a recent press interview with /Film, Marvel Studios president—Kevin Fiege—hinted about an potential Mavel animated film done by Disney while he was promoting the upcoming Avengers film.
Disney acquired Marvel in 2009 and ever since there have been rumors on whether (more likely, when) Disney would convert Marvel’s characters into animated films. In the interview, Fiege was asked a question about the likehood of the an animated Marvel movie and said that “there are certainly discussions.”
Fiege seemed unsure about the subject saying, “So I don’t know what you’re alluding to. I don’t know what’s out there now online.” Obviously he didn’t want to spill the beans too prematurely (which makes me think that there are beans to spill).
When asked whether Disney or Pixar would animate the film, he said:
Well I haven’t said no to Pixar, but Pixar is clearly doing their own thing. Yeah, no I’m not going to be the one to say what it is, but as you might imagine when we have thousands of characters and properties and now are owned by Disney, who has the greatest animation studio on earth, there are going to be discussions.
Pixar is known for its original films and characters and already has their own superhero fanchise, The Incredibles. Walt Disney Animation Studios seems like a better fit.
What do you think would be the first Marvel animated project that Disney would tackle? Do you think it will focus on one character or be a mash up including “thousands of characters and properties”?
